The Team Norms Agreement

What it is:
A tool to create a shared set of norms, ensuring everyone on the team is aligned on how they will collaborate and communicate.

How to use it:

  1. Discuss Team Values:

    • Host a team meeting to discuss core values that will guide how the team operates (e.g., respect, accountability, transparency).

  2. Set Specific Behaviors:

    • From the values, define specific behaviors. For example:

      • Respect: We will listen actively and without interrupting.

      • Accountability: We will hold ourselves accountable for our deliverables.

  3. Document the Norms:

    • Write the team norms down, making them visible to all members (e.g., a shared Google Doc or poster in the workspace).

  4. Review and Adapt:

    • Schedule regular check-ins to review the norms and adjust them as necessary, based on team feedback and evolving needs.

When to use it:

  • At the beginning of a new project or team initiative.

  • When facing conflict or misalignment within the team.

  • For ensuring clear communication and improving team dynamics.
