The Feedback Loop

What it is:
A structured way to give and receive constructive feedback, helping to improve performance and build trust within teams.

How to use it:

  1. Set Clear Expectations:

    • Agree as a team that feedback will be used for growth and development, not as criticism.

  2. Give Specific, Actionable Feedback:

    • Use the SBI model (Situation-Behavior-Impact):

      • Situation: Describe the context of the behavior.

      • Behavior: Describe the specific action that was taken.

      • Impact: Explain the effect of that behavior on the team or project.

  3. Receive Feedback Actively:

    • When receiving feedback, listen carefully and ask clarifying questions to ensure you understand the points being made.

    • Reflect on the feedback without becoming defensive.

  4. Implement Feedback:

    • Take actionable steps to implement the feedback and improve.

    • Schedule a follow-up meeting to review progress.

When to use it:

  • During team meetings or one-on-one sessions.

  • When seeking to improve performance or address issues within the team.

  • For continuous improvement and fostering a culture of learning.
